Windows PE Rescue Environment

The Windows PE rescue environment has the same user interface whether started from the Windows boot menu the Windows PE Rescue CD or the Bart PE Plug-In

*At start-up Windows first loads any additional drivers that you may have added to the boot directory. The load process continues by searching for plug-and-play devices and finally displays the following options:

Start the Reflect restore wizard. Navigate to the location of your stored image file and recover saved partitions. Each partition is restored independently and can be expanded to fill a larger disk if required.

Mount an image or backup file as a drive letter in Windows explorer. Once a backup or image is mounted you can recover individual files and folders by copying them to an existing drive using PE Explorer.

Windows PE explorer is similar to Windows Explorer. Using this program you can copy, rename and delete and files on your hard disk. You can also copy individual backup and image files (see above).

Start the regular MS-DOS command window. The main use of this option is to run the Microsoft 'drvload.exe' command. Drvload is used to add drivers to Windows PE and has the following simple command syntax:
'drvload.exe <path_to_inf_file>'

Configure your network card IP address.

*If a system partition is restored to either a different starting position or partition sequence then it is possible that the BCD or 'boot.ini' file will be incorrect. Taking this option will rebuild both these files if necessary.

This option will cleanly un-mount all NTFS and FAT partitions before re-booting.
