Compression

Image and backup files can be compressed to conserve space on the target storage medium.

Setting

Description

Compression level

At Medium compression level you will typically see a 60% compression factor in your image and backup files.  You will see variances in the compression factor based upon the type of data stored in the image and backup files, textual data compresses very well, binary data not as well.

Intelligent sector copy

Will only backup the sectors that are in use on the disk/partition being imaged.

Make an exact copy

Will include all sectors on the source disk/partition whether it is use or not.  This will increase the time taken to perform the image process and will also increase the size of the image file(s).  This is also know as a Forensic Copy.
