Upgrading from v4.2 |
This topic describes some of the major differences you will notice when you upgrade from v4.2 to v5. For featured changes see What's new in version 5.
Macrium Reflect v5 is fully backwards compatible with v4.x. This means that:
All xml definition files and scheduled tasks created with v4.2 will run as expected with v5. See XML definition files below.
All image and backup files created with v4.2 can be mounted and restored with v5
All log files created with v4.2 can be viewed with v.5.0. However, the new 'Create and Modified' date and file and folder log entries will not be available.
All VBScript source files and MS-DOS batch files created with v4.2 will run with v5
v5 generated image and backup files are reverse compatible with 4.2 of Macrium Reflect.
v4.2 rescue CDs can restore v5 created Image files.
Note: The latest v4.2 Linux should be used for compatibility
with v5 image files.
It's no-longer necessary to create separate XML files for your incremental and differential backups. A single XML file can be set to run Full, Differential or Incremental backups and images. v4.2 incremental and differential XML files can be executed but cannot be edited by v5. These files are no-longer necessary to create or schedule backup sets.
Note: When running an Incremental or Differential backup, if no full or previous backup exists in the target folder then a full backup will be run instead.
