Restore Partitions with Resize and Reorder

Similar to the standard method of restoring partitions, the added option of resizing and reordering your partitions gives you greater flexibility during the restore process.

To resize and reorder partitions during restore

  1. In the Macrium Reflect main window, select the Restore tab at the top left.

  2. Select the Image Restore tab.

    The restore tab displays a list of the discovered images from 'Folders To Search'. You can sort the images by date, location, or filename by clicking the relevant link. You can filter the list by backup disk, and add additional folders to the search. To browse for an image file that is not listed, click Browse for an image file at the top.

  3. Click an Image to select it.

    Actions links are shown inside the image area.

  4. Click Restore Image.

    The Restore Image Dialog is shown.


     

  5. Macrium Reflect indicates system partitions by displaying the operating system logo, for example the Windows flag , in the top left corner of the partition on the partition diagram. If the restore includes system partitions, the computer boots into a memory-resident Windows PE environment before restoring the system partitions and restarting to the restored system state.

  6. Remove partitions from the destination disk by left clicking on teh partition and then clicking 'Delete Existing Partition'.Repeat this for each partition to be removed from the destination disk.

  7. Drag a partition from the source image to the target disk and select 'Restored Partition Properties'.  The Partition Properties dialog is shown.  Resize the partition using either:

    a.  The resize control situated to the right of the partition.
    b.  Set the '    Partition Size'.  Adjust resolution by selecting Megabyte/Gigabyte/Terrabyte to the right of the edit box.
    c.  Set the amount of '    Free Space' after the partition.  Again, change resolution by selecting Megabyte/Gigabyte/Tarrebyte.
    d.  Select from '    Maximum Size', 'Minimum Size' or 'Original Size' to quickly use preset values.  These apply to partition size only.

  8. Select 'Drive Letter' to specify a drive letter for the restored partition.  Leave this at Auto to have the next available drive letter assigned.  This can only be left at Auto under Windows PE.

  9. Select 'Partition Type' to specify the type of restore partition.

  10. Select 'Alignment' to specify how the restored partition will be aligned.

  11. Repeat steps 7 to 10 for each partition to be restored

  12. Remove the check against 'Copy selected partitions when I click Next' as this will try and copy the partitions from the source image to the target disk.

  13. Click 'Next'.  The Restore Summary dialog is shown.

  14. Click 'Finish' to proceed with the restore.
